Susan Greenstein Orel, M.D., is Professor of Radiology at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, where her major teaching and clinical responsibilities cover breast imaging for the radiology outpatient department, and mentoring and career advising for radiology residents and medical students. She has given countless lectures by invitation on mammography and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the breast, and has written more than sixty articles and abstracts on this specialty. Dr. Orel's pivotal studies on MRI have led to understanding the value of this technique compared to routine mammography and ultrasound, identifying when MRI will (or will not) serve the patient's best interests. She has had a significant role in defining the special role of MRI for cancer diagnosis and staging. This has been a critical step in establishing the best methods of breast evaluation, to guide women to their best treatment decisions. Breastcancer.org is pleased to have Susan on its Professional Advisory Board, to speak to diagnostic decisions for its users.
