Philip M. Johnson, Ph.D.
Philip M. Johnson is a Professor of Information and Computer Sciences at the University of Hawaii in Honolulu. He is Director of the Collaborative Software Development laboratory, which performs research in Internet technologies related to computer-supported collaborative work and software engineering. The laboratory's Web site makes publicly available over 125,000 lines of software code. Professor Johnson's research has been supported by government grants from the National Science Foundation and the State of Hawaii, as well as by industrial grants from high-technology companies including Sun Microsystems, Tektronix, Compaq, Motorola, and Telcordia.
Active in high-technology entrepreneurship, Philip has taught classes on starting software businesses, co-founded an Internet startup, and currently serves on the Board of Directors of a venture capital firm and a high-technology development center. He enthusiastically supports the efforts of Breastcancer.org to use the Internet in innovative ways that help those living with concerns about breast cancer. "Like virtually everyone," he says, "my circle of friends and family has been touched by the trauma of breast cancer, and I believe Breastcancer.org can provide a unique resource to help all of us address the medical, social, and personal issues more effectively."
