Beverly Whipple, Ph.D., R.N., FAAN
Beverly Whipple, Ph.D., R.N., FAAN, is the Secretary General of the World Association for Sexual Health. She is a Professor Emerita at Rutgers University of New Jersey; past-president of the American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors and Therapists; past-president of the Society for the Scientific Study of Sexuality; and past-vice president of the World Association for Sexology. She has devoted her professional life to conducting research, teaching, and speaking nationally and internationally about women's health issues and the sexuality and sensuality of women and couples. She has delivered over 600 professional talks, presentations, and keynote speeches and published over 160 journal articles and book chapters.
Dr. Whipple is the co-author of The G Spot and Other Recent Discoveries about Human Sexuality, an international best-seller published in 19 languages, and updated as a classic and published 23 years later in 2005. She is also the co-author of Safe Encounters: How Women Can Say Yes to Pleasure and No to Unsafe Sex, Smart Women, Strong Bones,Outwitting Osteoporosis, and The Science of Orgasm. She uses her understanding of complex research (her doctorate is in neurophysiology) to demystify sexual and health issues so women can learn more about themselves and accept and enjoy being a woman. Her sense of humor and matter-of-fact, nonjudgmental style have helped women worldwide to understand and deal with the complexities of life and their relationships.
Dr. Whipple is a Fellow of the Society for the Scientific Study of Sexuality and a Fellow in the American Academy of Nursing. Among her numerous awards is the Distinguished Scientific Achievement Award, the Kindsey Award, the Most Distinguished Book Published in 2006 for The Science of Orgasm, the Biegel Award for the Best Article Published in the Journal of Sex Research and the Public Service award, all from the Society for the Scientific Study of Sexuality; the Professional Standard of Excellence Award and the Distinguished Service Award from the American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors, and Therapists; and the New Jersey State Nurses Award for Excellence in Nursing Research. New Scientist named her one of the 50 most influential scientists in the world in 2006. She is a member of a number of advisory boards, including the Foundation for the Scientific Study of Sexuality, and is on a number of professional editorial boards that are devoted to women's health and sexual health.
Dr. Whipple has a B.S. in Nursing from Wagner College, a Masters in Counseling, a Masters in Nursing, and a Ph.D. in Psychobiology with a major in Neurophysiology from Rutgers University.
Dr. Whipple is especially honored to be able to bring her expertise to all women reached by Breastcancer.org. After a threat or diagnosis of breast cancer, Dr. Whipple believes that an essential part of a woman's recovery is to rediscover the pleasures of living through expression of sensuality, sexuality, and intimacy, which help to enhance the quality of life.
